Established in 1946, Gilbert & Roach was purchased by the Suttons Group in 1971.
Subsequently Gilbert & Roach introduced Isuzu to the Australian market, more than doubling sales and maintaining a position as Australia’s top selling Isuzu dealership for the last 15 years.
In June 1981 Gilbert & Roach acquired the Kenworth franchise. Since that time it has actively promoted this Australian designed and built heavy truck market leader.
In April 2001 Gilbert & Roach also acquired the DAF franchise from Paccar, the Kenworth and Peterbilt parent company which took on DAF in 1996.
Gilbert & Roach’s Huntingwood dealership and service centre was officially opened by the founder and Chairman of the Suttons Group of Companies, Sir Frederick Sutton.
At the time of the opening, the President and Representative Director of Isuzu Motors Japan, Yoshinori, said of Huntingwood:
“If there is a better facility in the world, I have not visited it.”
Hintingwood is the ultimate truck dealership and service centre. It was designed from the ground up to keep clients’ trucks on the road longer with lower costs and less downtime – an aim achieved through a multitude of innovations and efficiencies within the dealership.
The result of many years research into international trends and expected future developments, it is a world class, transport industry benchmark development.
Attention to detail is evident everywhere, from the use of fibre optics to accommodate the next generation of communications to stainless steel pipes that won’t corrupt oil and water, state of the art recycling systems and a workshop floor designed to maximise light reflection.
The dealership has taken out the NSW Motor Traders Association’s “Metropolitan Member of the Year” and “Commercial Vehicle Dealer of The Year” awards in successive years and was the first truck dealer ever to be named Member of the Year.
